The last couple of weeks, we’ve been talking about aiming for MUCH bigger in our business, in our life, and in our purpose. We’ve stretched, looked into the fears of dreaming TOO big (is there such a thing?!) and looked at all the other emotions that come up once we’ve actually MADE the decision to play a bigger game. These are related to issues of safety, not rocking the boat, and self-doubt as to whether we really CAN play a bigger game in life and business.
But then, if this weren’t enough, there’s yet another thing that is likely to stop a lot of people right in their tracks. And that’s trying to figure out the “how”.
QUOTE: “The biggest difference between an average income and financial freedom is… IMPLEMENTATION.” – Bill Glazer
I recently spent four long days and nights with information marketing millionaires at the Information Marketing Summit and was astonished to hear that many of them, when pressed for THE secret of their recent 7-figure success, named ONE and only one. Best of all, I was able to witness this theme with most everyone I met, particularly the VERY successful ones.
These entrepreneur millionaires have ONE secret in common: IMPLEMENTING new ideas quickly. At first, it sounded so simple that I didn’t believe it fully. Could implementation (getting things done) be so profound that those who’ve REALLY succeeded named it as their number one KEY? Then I started thinking about my own journey since attending this same conference last year.
Creating your ‘compelling story’ to share with others can be one of the most powerful ways for you to attract clients through the know-like-and-trust factor. It communications your expertise, and shows prospects that, even though they may be in the ‘before’ of your before-and-after story, there is hope. And beyond that, it positions you as their problem solver, because you’ve already overcome the challenge that’s immediately in front of them.
What is YOUR compelling story around your business? What brought you to do what you’re doing today with such passion? What is your before-and-after story and how did you overcome your situation?
“What holds many solo-entrepreneurs back from playing really BIG is the deeply ingrained fear that the bigger you and your business get, the more you will make yourself a target for criticism. I’ve noticed this too, and at first, I took it personally.
But then my friend Valerie Hayes shared with me that she coaches her pageant contestant clients that, as they become more of a celebrity, they’re now a target for gossip and to just “deal with it”. As she says, it’s just a part of human conditioning and you can’t do anything about it. It almost means you’ve “arrived”, a signal of success. That said, when you can just accept that this is part of playing really big, and that it’s a sign that you’re making more of an impact on people, it just means you can go ahead and take your business even bigger.
It’s not about you, it’s about them, so don’t let it stop you…”

“Sometimes, a prospect needs some time to make a decision on whether or when they’d like to start working with you. What I’ve noticed over the years is that when this happens, most always, the sale never happens, probably because life gets in the way and what’s out of sight is out of mind. If prospects don’t bite on the ‘sales’ call, schedule a 5 minute “check-in” call with them to follow up with each other without having to play phone tag or have to follow up with one another.”
One of the best things to do to quickly establish credibility, get massive exposure, and attract new clients, is speaking. Hands down. Whether you organize your own seminars on a regular basis to continually fill the pipeline (the way I did for years), or get booked for talks to “pre-formed” groups like associations, it works like a charm-provided you give very good info.
If you deliver the talk properly, there’s always a group of people at the end of your talk who rush up to the podium to chat with you. Some will tell you how much they enjoyed the talk, some will be e-zine readers who’ve wanted to meet you for years, some will want free advice or to “pick your brain.” But, there’s one question you’ll almost always get and it comes in two parts. The first part’s the good part; “I’m interested in working with you.” The second one is the tricky part; “What do you charge?”
Have you ever been stopped in your marketing tracks because of procrastination and didn’t know where it was coming from? This happened a few times with some of my private clients recently, and we noticed that every time, it wasn’t really procrastination, it was a fear of some sort that was holding them back.
Perhaps you’ve experienced it too? The fear of reaching out to people, fear of failure, fear of success, fear of not doing something right, and the kicker, fear of REJECTION? I don’t think I know anyone who’s not experienced some form of fear of rejection when marketing themselves. I think it’s innate for many of us. Problem is, it holds us back from doing what it takes to get clients. And it’s got to stop.

If marketing is one slice of the pie, Manifesting is another. And by manifesting, I mean the Law of Attraction, what you focus on with great feeling, you attract into your existence. At its most basic, here’s how it can be described: If you’re continually focusing on having a full practice of yummy clients who pay you what you’re worth, then you will start to attract that. If you’re focusing rather on the LACK of clients and you’re ticked off that people aren’t paying you what you’re worth, then you will attract that also (meaning, not having those clients or not making enough money). Simple, yet very powerful.
I believe the key to more clients, more in-come, and more time off, is making your business run like a well-oiled machine. Right now, you may be handling everything yourself, or perhaps delegating a little bit of it. The problem with that is your business is probably running YOU, as opposed to you running your business. And that probably means lots of stuff is falling through the cracks, which then means lost opportunities and fewer clients and less mo-ney coming in.
