As you may know, over the last three weeks I have devoted the majority of my time toward finishing up my book on the mindset for lasting success. It’s been a transformational experience for me – cathartic, reflective, and even challenging at times (it takes real resolve to apply the seat of your pants to the seat of a chair!) Carving out this dedicated time with the support of my family and my yummy clients, and creating a space-physically, emotionally and spiritually – that supports me in doing this important work has made ALL the difference. I’m so grateful that I’m able to do this. The good news is that I’ve completed two thirds of the book as of today and that I’m so, so pleased with what I’ve written so far. Without trying to sound presumptuous, I sometimes sit here and I imagine the thousands of lives these words will change – I get really moved by the thought of it.

To dramatically increase referrals, it’s important to educate the people you consider personal advocates (those who know you, like you, trust you, love you, and want the best for you), and let them know what you’re up to and who your best clients are.

If you’re just starting out, it’s a letter of introduction; if you’ve been in practice several months or years, write an “update letter” on how your practice has grown or new services that you provide. (more…)

Hello from Arizona! Derek and I joined another high-level mastermind this year and, although we just re-upped with another group, we’re excited to be part of this one too. You see, we have BIG goals for 2011, and a TON more entrepreneurs to help. And to reach those lofty goals, we’ve got to have specialized knowledge we don’t currently have, create strategic alliances with people outside of our current circle, AND we need regular in-person accountability. Without this kind of support, I’d never be where I am today. In fact, this group is so high-level, you’d know most of them: virtually all the most well-known marketers in the world, an infomercial king who brings in 2 million-dollars a week (gulp!), famous stars (including Paula Abdul), etc. Basically, we’re masterminding with serious PLAYERS. And when you’re being called to step up and play with the big leagues, you can’t help but play a bigger game. (Plus, I pass this info on to my clients, which is a bonus.)

What about you, how will YOU place yourself in an environment of SERIOUS players this year, to get the specialized knowledge you don’t currently have and be pulled to play a much bigger game and reach your goals? It doesn’t matter what level of business you’re in, it’s crucial that you belong to something that has you take bigger action.

I just love Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero’s List of the 50 Coolest Marketers of 2010 and I’m also honored to be among them!

Lorrie included me for “teaching the softer way of getting clients.” For me, that’s what it’s all about. How do you market using a “softer approach?” You pull your clients toward you rather than chase them down.

Pulling clients in is not only more fun than pushing hard to “get” clients, it’s MUCH easier. Who wouldn’t rather have clients call them instead of pounding the pavement? The concept is a no-brainer to grasp, but very few solo-entrepreneurs actually do anything about becoming more client attractive.

How about you? What marketing strategies are you using to pull clients toward you? Are you offering tremendous value? Are you positioning yourself as THE expert with THE solution to your client’s problems? What is your compelling and authentic marketing message? I want to know!

Have you ever looked at your to-do list and just wanted to run away? Sometimes, procrastination gets the best of us self-employed people. It seems that everything is priority and we tend to put some things on the back burner. The thing is, if the items on your to-do list have to do with marketing and Client Attraction, then you don’t want to ignore them (if you do, your pipeline of prospects will be empty in 6 months, or less). My family and I spent a cozy Christmas with family and close friends at our ski home in Vermont. I hope you are spending this special time of year with those you love as well. This holiday season, I have a special request to ask of you. Over the next week, as you rush off to parties, enjoy all those presents, and busily go about all your preparation please take a moment to not lose sight of what really matters.

Spend a few moments deeply appreciating all of the abundance that surrounds you now,because what we are thankful for, we attract more of. While you’re at it, take some time to acknowledge the important people in your life, including your yummy clients and even extend some extra kindness to those who may need it most right now.

And as we get ready to transition from the old year to the new, I hope you’ll allow yourself to dream really big dreams for 2011 – both for your business and your life. Stretch your vision of what you think is possible. (It’s all within your reach.)

Lastly, I want to express to you how very thankful and grateful I am to have you in my life. Thank you for trusting me in this process we call Attracting Clients. Thanks for saying yes to your big purpose here on earth. And thanks for sharing certain parts of your life with me. It’s truly an honor to be a part of your life.

Derek and I went on our quarterly mid-week ‘staycation’, going away without getting on a flight, this time to New York City. We believe in taking time for ourselves as a couple to connect — if you have kids, especially 3 or more, you know there’s not a lot of ‘couple’ downtime, especially as entrepreneurs! So, last Monday, a luxury car took us into Manhattan in style and we stayed for two nights in a suite at the sumptuous Trump SoHo hotel. On the agenda? We focused on togetherness, walking around town, shopping, fine dining, an indie film, a Broadway show, and more yummy meals at several favorite restaurants. Oh, and we made sure there were no phones, no tweeting or texting, with heavy emphasis on complete and utter relaxation and connection. It was bliss and 2 days felt like 5 days!

It’s been a busy season of meetings and trips, both personal and professional. Last week, I attended a one-day meeting that left me sleepless last night, my mind racing about the possibilities for expansion of The Client Attraction System® to a global company that is the number one resource for women entrepreneurs looking to attract more clients, experience unlimited lifetime growth and an unsurpassed quality of life. My heart races when I imagine how truly big this vision is, and yet, at the same time, how doable and attainable it is, right within my reach. I’ll share more of the development over the next few months…

This is actually a great example of the kind of mindset you need whenever you’re looking to grow your business, even if you’re at the beginning stages, stuck, frustrated, overwhelmed even with the prospect of getting just a few more clients on board. Now that I’m done traveling for the year (other than a solo, romantic 2-night jaunt to New York City this week with Derek), I’m looking forward to finishing my book in December and January. And while Derek and the kids went skiing in Vermont this weekend, I stayed home to spend quality time with little Oliver in our new home, and for some girlfriend time from my close friend Baeth who visited me from Tucson, AZ. It was great, relaxed fun! Hope you had a greet weekend too…

Let’s face it: being self-employed, our businesses are fundamentally a reflection of every part of us. It’s not like working for a corporation where you don’t really control the outcome of the business unless you’re at the top. Who you and I “are” as people literally affects our businesses, every day, every minute, every second, with every breath.

Knowing that the “inner” is directly reflected in the “outer,” it’s especially so for those working solo. If there’s turmoil or disconnection within you as a person, it will be reflected in your business. If there’s purpose, acceptance, and alignment, things come to you without struggle. (more…)
