Client attraction is based upon the Know-Like-Trust Factor. For people to want to hire you or refer you they’ve got to know you, like you, and trust you! The sooner they get to know, like and trust you, the sooner they become paying clients. When you first started your business you did a lot of your marketing one-to-one. You were networking and speaking and talking one-to-one with referral partners. Once your practice gets full, the only way you can make more money is to leverage yourself. One of the ways to leverage yourself is by leveraging your marketing.

I want you to always be thinking about that—leverage your marketing. One of the ways to do this, it to use technology. This is what we teach our Platinum level and above clients –just how can you leverage your business.

I recently spoke with a woman who was so excited to finally meet me live and in person. “Oh my gosh. It’s you!” she said. “You’re in the flesh in person. I feel like I know you so well because I watch all your videos.”

If you want to pull clients in with your marketing, first you’ll need to get their attention by providing real solutions. And, I mean not the fluff you see out there – but real solutions your clients can use and get results from.

Second, and this is just as big as the first, your materials need to focus on your prospects, not on your methods. Too many marketers get this wrong… It’s not about you or your process or methods – it’s about the solutions and results you provide! Truth is, potential clients don’t care how you get the job done, they just want to know they’ll get the needed results. This combination has a tremendous impact on prospects, making it easy for them to connect with you.

Why is that? Because everyone is tuned into the same channel on the dial: “WIIFM.” WIIFM stands for “What’s in it for me?” That is exactly what your target is thinking and what they want to know first and foremost.

So, how can you position your marketing in a way to focus on the solutions and results your clients most want? To make pull marketing work for you, you need to position yourself as your target’s problem-solver. Your marketing messages must address their problems in their language and offer a solid solution (risk-free works best). In other words, you must market and talk about your business, based on your results. This is the tried and true formula for pull marketing.

Let’s back up a bit to understand how you can execute this. Think about the results people get from working with you. Then, consider what remarkable advantages you have over others – including your competition. And, also think about what makes you a credible resource. Get prepared to answer the dreaded questions, “Why should I work with you as opposed to her?”

When you can address the conversation already going on in a person’s head, you will make them feel like you know them better than anyone else. That makes people feel understood and comfortable with you. And in turn, this establishes a foundation of trust which is the essential quality needed to land new clients.

Your Client Attraction Assignment:

Take some time to determine answers to the following four questions:

  1. What results do your clients get from working with you?
  2. What advantages do you have vs. your competitors?
  3. What makes you a credible resource?
  4. Why should clients choose you?

Next, think about the conversation already going on in your target audience’s head. What are their biggest problems, challenges and worries?

After gathering all this information, come up with some provocative questions to ask prospects that allow you to talk with them, as if you already know them. Now that you have familiarized yourself with their needs, you do know something about them. Let that show and you will “pull” them in a lot more easily than any sales pitch could ever do.

Everyone likes a good story. This is especially true in business when you tell the passion-filled story of your success. That’s because listeners are captivated, aching to imagine their own success story too.

What is a Compelling Story?

Many entrepreneurs can actually point to a specific, defining moment or a series of determining events that brought them to where they are today. This is the foundation supporting your achievements which can provide you with instant credibility among your prospects.

I’m asked all the time how I manage to create all this new content each and every week for my weekly ezine.   I have a process I’ve been using for years that allows me to come up with lots of new content so that I don’t have to recycle it very often.

I start by thinking about “who” it is that I most want to attract. When you’re being haphazard with your content, it’s too easy to attract all sorts of prospects. But, if you’re in a place in your business where you’re very clear on who your ideal client is and who it is exactly that you want to attract, you start to pay more attention. It becomes a matter of identifying what it is that your ideal client needs most, right now.

When I’m on the phone with a client and he or she expresses a concern or tells me about a particular issue they are having, I jot it down on a post-it note, stick it to my wall and then continue on with my teaching. Before long, I start collecting these great topics for future articles that will solve my prospects’ problems and attract more ideal clients to my business.

I also identify issues that I’m going through because very often our ideal clients are a lot like us. Think about the challenges you personally go through and how your experiences can benefit others like you. Make a list. When you have 12 or 13 then you’ve got an entire three months’ worth of editorial content. Put it together in an editorial schedule and you’ve got a specific list of topics you can plug right into your calendar.

Your Video Assignment

Take the following 4 easy steps to create editorial content that will attract your ideal clients every time:

  1. Think about what type of clients you want to attract, right now. If you’re not attracting the type of clients you want, consider changing your content.
  2. Make a list of the topics that would appeal to them. What are they having a hard time with right now?
  3. How can you position yourself as the problem solver? You want to provide solutions. Believe it or not, people don’t buy processes, they buy solutions!
  4. Map it out on your calendar.

There you have it—your process for creating content that solves your ideal client’s problems, while attracting those same people to your business. Now, get writing…and good luck!

Wouldn’t it be great if you could find your ideal clients all in one place? What if they were gathered together for you?  That would sure make marketing a heck of a lot easier wouldn’t it? The good news is that this is completely possible!

There are two basic ways to find your ideal clients and both methods work really well.

1. Find ways to pull your ideal clients toward you, inexpensively and in large numbers.

There is something you could offer, whether it’s a special report, a class or workshop you could create that your ideal clients would literally jump for. One important feature, is that whatever you decide on, it should be available free to prospects. This eliminates any monetary barriers that might prevent your ideal prospects from connecting with you. Consider options from this valuable list of freebies:

  • CD/audio program
  • Special report
  • Consultation
  • MP3 audio
  • Live workshop
  • Introductory evening
  • “Bonus Day” event
  • Sample of your work

Many of these ideas cost very little to produce, but have a tremendous value to your prospects. Free products or programs have amazing appeal, give prospects a taste of your work with no risk, and allow people to get to know you. It’s a great way to build trust which helps you attract the clients you want most.

2. Determine who has already gathered your ideal clients for you.

Think about it this way – your ideal clients have quite a few similarities. They might:

  • Earn the same amount of money
  • Have the same hobby
  • Be in the same age bracket
  • Enjoy the same leisure activities
  • Do the same job
  • Have the same problem
  • Have young children or college students

Keeping these parallels in mind, it stands to reason that your target audience congregates in certain places. To make it easier to find them, ask yourself, “Who has already done the work of gathering these folks for me?” What other types of businesses market to the same group of people?

Once you discover businesses that target the same ideal clients, you now have a strong marketing opportunity at your disposal.  You can partner with other non-competing professionals in your marketing efforts. See if they’ll promote you to their list for a referral fee, or request referrals from them.

For example, you might coach people going through divorce. Other non-competing professionals who market to this same group include divorce attorneys, financial planners, realtors, life insurance salespeople, and child-care providers, among others. You can start to see the opportunities of getting to know people in these related fields, since you all serve clients going through divorce.

In other words, these professionals have already gathered a group of clients going through divorce that you might be able to leverage once you get to know and trust each other.

Your Client Attraction Assignment:

1. Think about what you already have in your marketing arsenal that could be turned into a freebie. Do you have a report or audio that can be repackaged and offered to prospects? If not, what do your ideal clients want that you can easily prepare and offer them?

2. Make a list of professionals who serve the same client pool as you do. Then, go through your contact list to see who you already know and can ask about co-marketing options.
